Subject: What if the ts-programs won't work 5. ***** Q: Some of your programs refuse to work on my PC. They do nothing or just confuse the screen. A: Not surprising. The ts-programs are (mostly) Turbo Pascal 5.0 and 7.0 programs written for true compatibles and the good old plain 16-bit MS-DOS. They have not been written for the present 32-bit bloated Windows systems. In particular, the programs which use advanced screen writes (inverted colors, windowing, etc) and the so called interrupts (direct access to PC's internal services) require a truly compatible PC. Most frequently the problem is in the user's non-standard video adapter hardware. A proper CGA, EGA or VGA personal computer should have no problems, but a monochrome might. (Monochrome PCs often are older and non-compatible anyway). My programs have been written for vanilla MS-DOS not 4DOS. Despite contrary claims there are incompatibilities in 4DOS. This does not concern my programs only. The problem is general. Furthermore, please see the later item "Allegedly corrupt packages". If you have problems with my programs, the first thing to do is ensure that the .zip package is intact and then try out the offending program on a truly compatible MS-DOS machine. If it does not work even then, I would be very interested in a description of the problem, preferably with a log, so that I could try to look into it. But please try it out on a compatible MS-DOS(!) PC first before you report the problem. --------------------------------------------------------------------
