`ZEDFEST DIR5ޒZEDFEST FOR7e0ZEDFEST HOT; .@@ZEDFEST MSGE2 DIRECTIONS TO WHEELERS' KINGMAN ROAD NASSAU, NY FROM SOUTH-WEST OF ALBANY: NY Thruway to Berkshire Spur (toward the MASS PIKE,) to EXIT B1 on the Berkshire Spur (ca 10 miles?.) Pay toll at the right-most available booth, and STAY RIGHT, onto the exit ramp, NOT onto I- 90. Down the ramp, turning RIGHT onto Rte 9, northbound (AWAY FROM Hudson/Valatie, for which there is a sign) and proceed past a cut-down hill on your right which puts you beside a house/barn etc. labeled "B-1 Industries." (It's a prominent blk and white sign beside the road, for a construction equipment firm.) JUST PAST B1 Industries, the first ROAD to the right off 9, is KINGMAN RD. This is approx one half mile from the B1 tollbooth, and can also be recognized by a sign (before the Kingman Rd intersection) for the Hannaford Distribution Facility (which is up Kingman just a little from the intersection) and a round, dayglow-green sign on the far side of the intersection that sez "Empire Beagle Club" (this really glows in the dark as you flash it.) Turn Right ONTO KINGMAN ... and jump to the 3rd paragraf below ... FROM ALBANY, etc. VIA I-90 EASTBOUND: Go to EXIT 12, the "last exit before toll" (ie. before entrance to Berkshire Spur of NY Thruway); down ramp to Rte 9. LEFT turn onto Rte 9 at the bottom of the ramp (ie. toward Albany and AWAY from Valatie, Hudson, etc. -- which is the way 9 is signed.) Pass under I-90, pass a cut down hill on your right, pass a house/barn etc. labeled "B-1 Industries" (It's a prominent blk and white sign beside the road) at the point where "BAME Rd" comes in from the left.) JUST PAST B1 Industries, the first ROAD to the RIGHT off Rte 9 is KINGMAN RD. This is approx one half mile from the I-90-ramp/Rte 9 intersection, and can also be recognized by a sign (before the Kingman Rd intersection) for the Hannaford Distribution Facility (which is up Kingman just a little from the intersection) and a round, dayglow-green sign on the far side of the intersection that sez "Empire Beagle Club" (this really glows in the dark as you flash it.) Turn Right ONTO KINGMAN ... [ IF YOU GET TO A MOTEL ON THE RIGHT, OR (farther along) a CUMBERLAND FARMS/GULF ON THE LEFT, TURN AROUND AND COME BACK ] On Kingman Road, proceed till you pass between an obvious Dairy Barn and its house (barn on right, house on left, as you are travelling.) Now watch for the woods on your right to start again. About 100 feet past the beginning of the woods, and also on the right, is our mailbox -- Big & Black with Wheeler on it in white letters. Driveway is BEFORE the mailbox (very close to precisely 1 mile from intersection of Kingman & Rte 9.) FROM THE EAST/NORTH-EAST, as in Lake Tatsawasa: Rte 20 to the village of Nasau. Nassau hs a single traffic lite in the middle of the ville -- go straight thru (if it's green.) Road runs down into a small dip -- video rental joint on the right is near the bottom, and back slightly up out, homes on both sides now. Well before you top the grade upwards, you'll see a sign on the left for Hudson City Savings (or somekinda bank beginning with an "H") and on the right for the Town of Schodack (much smaller and less prominent.) Right after the bank is a road to the LEFT off 20. Take it (McClellan Rd, but not well marked??.) (The far side of the McClellan Rd intersection contains an AGWAY.) [If you reach the intersection of 9 and 20, you're too far to use the directions above. Instead, turn LEFT, proceeding south on 9 about 3 miles, to the point where you can just see an expressway-interstate passing overhead. At that point you're close to the end of Kingman Road as described above.] But, IF you're on course from NASSAU, on McClellan, bear to the right, staying on McClellan, when you have a choice at the "Waterbury Rd" intersection. Soon, you'll be off in rural territory, pass a bad curve on a small uphill grade, and slide down into an intersection with Bunker Hill Rd. Bunker Hill comes in from your right in a "V" intersection; McClellan, the road you're on, goes LEFT with Bunker Hill for a very few feet, then off to the Right at a right angle. Again, Not sure the signs are good, but McClellan, which changes into Kingman Road, goes into a valley and back up out. At he top of the hill (which is a Landmark) is -- on the left, at a T intersection, "Woodward Road." Proceed straight past Woodward, past the big black mailbox (no name visible as you approach it from the Woodward Rd side) is our driveway to your left. If you go over the hump and come on a house on the right with a barn on the left, you've gone too far by a tad. FROM SOUTH-WEST OR EAST: Your (intermediate) goal is the westbound-MASS PIKE/NYS Thruway "Berkshire Spur." From Boston -- MASS PIKE all the way ... From Hartford -- I-91 to Springfield MA and West on PIKE ... From New Haven, Stamford, etc: Route 8 north (expressway to Winsted, CT; and a pretty-good two lane road into Mass. Once into Massachusetts, beware of the junction with Rte 20, coming in from the Southeast. This site has (had, in the past and perhaps still) a sign suggesting that you should make a sharp right at the top of a small hump, just past a barn-being-converted-to-a-residence. DON'T. Continue as nearly due-NORTH as the road will allow. Just past the right turn (ca. 200 feet) and on the other side of the hump west-bound 20 joins from the right at an oblique angle. Proceed North to LEE (signage may say Pittsfield/Lenox/MASS PIKE or some combination thereof -- what you don't want to be doing is going toward Springfield or any Connecticut locale.) At LEE, get onto the MASS PIKE, Westbound, toward Albany. The MASS PIKE ends at the state line and the route becomes the Berkshire Spur of the NY Thruway. You'll pick up a NY toll ticket at (NY) Exit 3. Proceed west past exit 2, which is where the Taconic joins the Berk Spur, to exit 1, which is in the area of mile post 6 or 7 (ie. 6 or 7 miles from the Hudson River and 20 miles or so into New York State.) At Exit 1, pay your toll (55 cents??) at the RIGHT-MOST AVAILABLE BOOTH, as you will bear to the right, down an exit ramp, immediately after paying the toll. Do NOT proceed straight ahead onto I-90 (aka locally "Free-90.") At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right, or NORTH, onto ROUTE 9. You are approximately 1/2 file from the intersection of 9 and Kingman Rd, described elsewhere, with the "LAST MILE" to Wheelers'. This library contains three things (plus this file.) There is also what is reputed to be a very decent (and reasonable) place just south (5 miles??) on Rte 9, in Columbia County, called "Blue Spruce" -- probably in the the town of Niverville or Kinderhook, but I have no directory here that gives me solid reassurance that my memory is correct.
